Blisters are the skin’s reaction to friction in hot and damp places! All those three factors combined create an environment perfect for blisters to appear. Our boots are the perfect climate for breeding blisters that keep us off our feet. During long walks, hikes, or even in the workplace, your feet are enclosed in shoes without proper ventilation. When that happens, a fluid filled bubble swells in the skin, causing great discomfort, tenderness and painful movement.
With boot season approaching, preventing blisters is a necessity! This is what you need to be blister free this Fall!
- Proper Boots. Choose appropriate shoes when working or hiking. For selecting a hiking or work book, keep in mind these types of footwear should be one size bigger than what you would typically wear. Your foot should be secure in place, but with enough room to wiggle the toes comfortably. This certainly depends on the brand of boot, so definitely try on a couple sizes before finalizing your boot shopping experience. Avoid online shopping! Your feet really need to feel out your boot to know if it will work! We offer several boot options, in our office, that provide comfort, support, and depth for the boot lover! Vionic and Dr. Comfort have a wide selection!
- Proper Socks. Your hiking socks should provide cushioning and reduce abuse to prevent excess friction on the foot skin. Your socks should transport excess moisture away from your skin as the moist environment supports blister creation. Aetrex Copper Sole socks, in our office, provide this protection necessary for boots!
- Proper Insoles. Sometimes the best boot will lack a proper insole. The original insoles delivered with them are not comfortable, supportive, or durable. In these cases, you need to replace it for an insole that will fit your feet and won’t cause problems. Medical grade inserts, like Powersteps, can provide a solid improvement to standard insoles. Additionally, Icon Orthotics create custom insoles shaped to each individual foot to provide support and alignment.
- Proper Strapping. If you know your feet well and know which areas are most prone to blistering-It might happen that you just have delicate feet and despite good shoes and socks you will still get blisters on your feet.In this case you can tape the problematic spots before you go hiking. Like that you will protect your feet before anything happens.
