In my travels to Disneyland, I was able to not only continue my quest to journey to a 5k, but I also got to see a TON of new sights! I enjoyed a great ‘power walk’ (more on that in minute!) and got to see Disney’s California Adventure park! They were even setting up for the world premiere of the new Disney movie The Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp! It was very cool to see that transformation of an amusement park into a movie red carpet!
Back to my walk – it was advertised as a 15 min/mile 30 minute brisk walk through the park. As I had JUST gotten back to my room a mere 6 hours before (I went to Disneyland and they were open until midnight – I took FULL advantage!), I was quite proud of myself to be up and at ‘em at 6am for this adventure. I met some great people and was really surprised at the fitness level of everyone there.
Through my C25k (couch to 5K) training I am pretty used to the pace as advertised. It is my current pace that I am trying to break to go a little faster for my next race. I was NOT ready for people who were SO MUCH more fit than myself and who were able to walk faster than I can even jog!! Fortunately, my new partner in crime (Brooke, it was her birthday!) and I kept pace and jogged right along with the ‘walkers’.
I was intimidated at first about not being as fit as everyone else. I learned a big lesson. It doesn’t matter how fast you are, it’s just important that you are out there getting it done! Since I usually train/walk alone, I was quite surprised at how I was able to keep pace AND that I didn’t pass out after going so much faster than I am used to. A pleasant surprise to say the least!
Now, as for my plantar fasciitis?? It did flair up again, but some ice and biofreeze came in handy at the conference! And my powersteps for my dress shoes kept me comfy for the whole day! What a great trip!!
