All Heartland Foot and Ankle Associates' new employes must pass an extensive training course prior to becoming team members. This in-depth training includes all aspects of the practice, from medical assisting, insurance, and front office duties. In addition to all the 'normal' things one would think a new team member would learn, newbies also must earn their ears.
I know your probably thinking what in the world do ears have to do with feet, we're dealing with the other end of the body here. But earning your ears is an utterly important part of our training. You don't just earn any old pair of ears, you earn the iconic, world- wide recognizable, big circular black ears - Mickey Mouse ears!
Obviously Heartland Foot and Ankle Associates isn't related to Disney, nor do we have mice for mascots. But we do believe in Disney's philosophy - the happiest place on earth. What other company has brought unconditional joy and happiness to children of all ages for nearly a millennium?

In addition to the expansive list of how our office tries to provide the Disney experience, each individual is encouraged to exceed expectations in any way they can. For instance, a medical assistant was taking X-rays of a patient with young children as Lisa, our billing coordinator, was walking by. Lisa noticed the patient's young children were a bit frightened of their mother getting X-rays so she sat down with them in a room and told stories and colored pictures to occupy their time.
Other examples include Diana, our head medical assistant, offering her assistance to an elderly patient by opening the doors for help and then helping him into the car. Cindy, our marketing coordinator, heard a young child crying in the reception area and decided to help by bringing a squeeze foot for the child to play with. The child's tears turned to a smile in an instant. Theses are just a few examples of our team earning their ears.
