We all know that conditioning your hair is essential for a healthy, beautiful look but most forget hydrating your nails is just as important. As vacation season approaches, it’s important to get those feet vacation ready! Dry, cracking, brittle toenails are unsightly, may be uncomfortable, and could even be infected which can ruin your trip. Like the rest of your body, you need to invest in your nails for them to be healthy.
  • Your nails must be clean and trimmed. Clip them straight across and file carefully as needed.
  • Moisturize nails regularly. Olive oil, petroleum jelly, and coconut oil make excellent ointments. Try Dr.’s Remedy Nail Hydration Treatment. Amerigel Premium Lotion, available at HFAA, is also a great moisturizer!
  • Eat vitamin-rich foods and drink plenty of water. Your nails rely on nutrients to grow. Vitamins and minerals found in fruits and veggies are important—particularly biotin. TheraNAIL RX is also an option if you need help growing your nails back and you can get this from our office too!
Remember to AVOID:
  • Using too much nail polish remover. Chemicals in remover, and even some polishes, severely dry nails. Formaldehyde and acetone are particularly detrimental. For healthy nail polish, check out our line of Dr.’s Remedy Nail Polish!  It lacks these harmful chemicals and have a great finish!
  • Wearing too tight shoes!
  • Ignoring fungal infections. Fungus ruins your nails, causing discoloration, thickening,  and brittleness. You’ll have a hard time getting rid of the fungus on your own.
