Paintball Prep

Proper footwear for paintballIf you have read past blogs, you can tell my office manager, Sam, is an active paintball player.  Recently Sam and her teammates attended one of the largest Midwestern paintball scenario events - Living Legends.  This event hosts thousands of paintball players battling for the title of champion team.  There is much hype, including publications, due to the magnitude of the event.  A well-known paintball enthusiast, Jonathon Mickler, authored a 10 page document entitled ‘Living Legends Packing List & Info Guide’.  Physical preparation, hydration, and game play were all reviewed in depth, but Sam appreciated Mickler’s emphasis on podiatric health!

Mickler explains, "Footwear is very important for Legends, as is with any all-day or multi-day scenario game."  He continues to recommend each player bring at least 2 pairs of socks per day and avoid cotton socks if possible.  Cotton soaks up sweat, keeping feet wet and vulnerable to infections such as Athlete's Foot.  Moisture-wicking materials, such as the copper in Aetrex Copper Socks, wick away sweat keeping feet nice and dry.

Waterproof boots with traction and ankle support are recommended as players run across the treacherous, un-even terrain that is CPX Paintball Park, where Living Legends is hosted.  But, in Mickler’s ‘Game ON’ section he urges readers to take off their boots and pull out the inserts during breaks, allowing feet and inserts to ‘breath’ and air out.  Also during breaks, players should change into a new pair of socks.

Mickler ends with words I have said myself, and live by, "Treat your feet right and they’ll carry you a million miles."
