I love weddings. I was especially excited to see the beautiful dress(es!) worn by Kim Kardashian when she married Kris Humphries last weekend. I also got a good look at her shoes and boy were they HIGH heels! It reminded me of my wedding day, where I not only married my best friend, but also married comfort with fashion!
When I got married, I found the most beautiful 3 inch heels to wear to the ceremony. The lace detailing matched my dress perfectly and even though I knew better, they went into my shopping cart! After a ‘trial run’ (which I suggest with any new pair of shoes for a special occasion!), I was confident I could make it through the 30 minute ceremony without any major issues.
Wedding day came and we took numerous pictures before and after the ceremony. My “30 minutes” turned into “two hours”. By the time we were finished, I raced into the limo to pull out my back up plan: my trusty sneakers, decorated to match the dress! It made the reception so much more enjoyable and I was able to dance the night away without hobbling. ALWAYS have a back up pair of sturdy comfortable shoes handy to help with those beautiful ‘half day’ shoes – shoes you can wear for half a day before your feet feel like they’re going to fall off.
To relieve the abusive effects of high heels, limit the amount of time you wear heels and alternate these shoes with good quality sneakers or flats for part of the day. Look for comfortable and attractive walking pumps for work and social activities, that blend fashion appeal with athletic shoe-derived construction, reinforced heels, and wider toe room for greater comfort. Low-heeled shoes (one inch or lower) with a wide toe box are the ideal choice for heels. An ample toe box that can accommodate the front part of the foot is as important as the heel in determining fit.
If you have a pair of ‘half day shoes’ and need some assistance in making your fashion more comfy, please contact Heartland Foot and Ankle Associates at 309-661-9975 or visit our website. We have a wide array of foot care products to help ease you through your special day!
