Step It Up!

Did you know that in any given day the average person walks 10,000 steps, about the equivalent of 5 miles?  Don’t think you are anywhere near 10,000 steps a day?  Maybe it’s time to invest in a pedometer!

A pedometer is a small device that you clip to your waistband that tracks the number of steps you walk in a day.  They range in price from $10-$100 depending on the brand and features you want it to include.  You can purchase a pedometer at most drug stores, athletic supply stores, or a big chain store.

Walking is the simplest, most natural, and most economical way to keep your body active and healthy.  Wearing a pedometer gives you a way to measure how many steps you are taking and allows you to set personal goals with gradual increases in steps.  Wear your pedometer for a few days and record the number of steps you take each day.  Set a goal of 500 additional steps a day for the next week.  Gradually add 500 steps per week until you are at 10,000 steps.  You will be amazed with how much better you feel!

What an easy way to kick off the New Year right!
