Kids need shoes with the same support as adults. Many people don’t think that children can have problems with their feet because they are so young, but in reality it’s the most important time to be educating them on how to take care of their feet. Our feet do not actually stop growing until our late teens. With that being said, what we do to our feet at a young age can affect how they develop as we get older.
If you have a fracture in the foot at a young age, there is a good chance that later in life you could develop arthritis in that foot. It’s not the safest idea for your child to be running around in sandals that do not have a rear strap on them as their feet could easily slip out of the sandals and become injured. Also, when picking out tennis shoes, make sure that they have plenty of support in them. Better yet, invest in a medical grade insert to place in shoes, such as the Powerstep Powerkids insert that we recommend at our office. The process is easy and your kids can even help out! All you have to do is remove the original insert from the tennis shoe and replace it with the Powerstep Powerkids insert. Just remember that as your child’s feet get bigger you will have to replace the inserts to keep up with the growing. You can stop by HFAA anytime and pick up a pair of Powerstep Powerkids inserts!
