A trend that has been weaving in and out of pop culture in the last several years has been celebrity nail decals. In 2010, Katy Perry wore then husband Russell Brand’s photo on her nails to the MTV Music Awards. In 2012, Beyonce graced her ring fingers with photos of she and husband, Jay-Z. And recently in the news, a new trend on Etsy (an online marketplace where people around the world connect to buy and sell unique goods), you can purchase Miley Cyrus nail decals for as little as $6.
A nail decal is different from the nail art at most spas such as Healing Steps Spa. Rather than a nail technician custom making a work of art on your nail, you instead place an adhesive sticker on your nail, file it down and apply a top coat to seal the decal to your nail. While it is not as unique as nail art, it is a fun trend to try!
So, how does one acquire the photos to add to their manicure? A fun new start up company called Nail Snaps turns any picture into nail art decals using a mobile app that sends the photo to their printing house. Your photo is turned into nail decals, complete with instructions on how to apply them, and then mailed to you (for a nominal fee of course).
