5Khoas - 2014 Edition

My sister signed me up for a few 5k races this fall, and in order to inspire you, my amazing blog readers, and myself, I am going to spread out the gory training details of a woman/podiatrist/mom who is trying to practice what she preaches this summer and GET IN SHAPE for these runs.

First up, the 5 Khoas run in August.  It’s not just a 5K, it also has challenging obstacles. We ran in this in 2012 when I was 20lbs lighter and dumber - I didn’t train or investigate the obstacles before we ran it.  I’m not making that same mistake this year! I know they are bringing back this ‘hill’ (it was a mountain) for the 2014 running.  So this time around I at least know what I am getting into.

Step 1 – A plan.  Back to the “Couch to 5k" program.  So don’t be surprised if you see me training in the mornings on Hershey Road or in Tipton Park.

Step 2 – Shameless admission of fear and guilt at trying AGAIN.  Yes, I said guilt.  I am a yo-yo dieter and exerciser-this ends now.  Hold me accountable.  Ask me if my feet hurt (they do – I think I have peroneal tendonitis…) and most importantly, JOIN me as we become the better people we are meant to be.

I am inspired by my TEAM at HFAA, my sister, and my daughter.  So now I want to inspire MYSELF and you.  You can do this, and so can I.  Be on the lookout for a blog on how to pick a proper running shoe and training pictures!
