The hit TLC reality show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" follows a redneck family in Georgia. This family is not easily shamed, in fact they're comfortable enough to fart, mud wrestle, and weigh themselves on national television. This family has done it all, loud and proud, and seem to have little concern for social expectations, especially the norms of physical appearance. June Shannon, aka Mama, states "pretty comes in all sizes." But it turns out that there is one aspect of her life that embarrassed Mama so much that she wouldn't even share it with her family, let alone the cameras. That is, until one very revealing episode.
Throughout the season, mama would never remove the sock on her left foot. It turns out, Mama was involved in a work accident including a fork lift that left her foot deformed. Even on an episode where she got a pedicure with her daughters, the grown woman would not uncover her foot and the pedicurist painted the toenails on top of the sock. Finally, after the nagging requests of her family, the never before seen foot was revealed.
The big reveal unmasked a red, inflamed, swollen foot. As a foot care specialist, these symptoms concern me much more than the mild deformity. All of these symptoms may be due a circulation problem and/or diabetes. Diabetes can also decrease the body's ability to fight off infections, which may be why there was a heard of gnats flying around the unveiled foot. Poor circulation can also cause swelling and longer healing times.
It is very important for Mama June to see a local podiatrist as soon as possible. Feet, regardless of past injury, should NOT look that way and she could be at high risk for developing further complications such as ulcerations or even amputations.
