How HFAA is Giving Back This Fall

Nov 14, 2019

At Heartland Foot & Ankle Associates, giving back to the community is one of our most important values.

Whether through providing effective medical treatments, devoting our time and resources to local charities, or just doing the little things that make people smile, our goal is that every interaction we have with others makes their lives a little brighter, happier, and healthier!

The most obvious way we do this, of course, is through our comprehensive foot care services to families throughout Central Illinois. We all got into medicine because we wanted to make people’s lives better and help them get back to their favorite activities, and it’s still what motivates us to be the very best for our patients every single day.

The importance of proper foot care is huge, but it’s not the only way we give back. Read on to learn about a couple of other things we’re up to this fall—and how you can participate and benefit!

The Second Annual HFAA Veteran’s Drive

We owe so much to the men and women who have bravely served, and are still serving, in the U.S. armed forces. Simply put, we wouldn’t have the comfort, freedom, and security we now enjoy without the continued service of those prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice, if necessary, to defend us.

Yet many veterans and their families are struggling. About 1.5 million veterans in the United States live in poverty, and almost 40,000 are homeless. In fact, almost 1 in 10 homeless adults are veterans. This includes men and women living in our community—perhaps you’ve met some of them. And Christmas can be especially tough.

Last year, we decided to host a veteran’s drive at HFAA to help provide emergency assistance to local vets in need. We’re doing it again this year, and we’re asking you to help us out!

From now through December 13, we are accepting donations of clothing, hygiene products, personal care items, and single-day bus passes at our office. These are items that are in critical need by our homeless veterans, especially during this winter season. If you know you’re never going to wear that sweater again—but it’s still in good, clean shape—don’t just throw it away. Give it to someone who truly needs it.

Check the image below for suggestions of what items are good to donate:

Giving Back

We’re partnering with Home Sweet Home Ministries, a local organization that has been serving the homeless and hungry in Bloomington for more than 100 years. They provide food assistance, shelter, housing assistance, donations, job training, public advocacy, and more.

Your donations will also count double, too, because Dr. Lockwood and her family have promised to match whatever we receive.

You don’t need an appointment to donate. You don’t even need to be our patient to donate! If you don’t plan on seeing us for foot care services before December 13, just drop by the office with your donation and we’ll happily take care of the rest. Let your friends know about us, too. We’d love to see you!

Every little bit helps, so thank you in advance for anything you may be able to provide. We’re lucky to have some of the most generous patients anywhere!

Grab Yourself Some FREE Thanksgiving Pie!

Now for something a little more light-hearted.

It can’t be said enough: We are deeply thankful for each and every one of you. Whether you’ve been our patient for years or only stopped by once a long time ago, we’re so grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve you and get to know you a little better.

And of course, we want to show that appreciation by giving you a little something you can enjoy with your family this Thanksgiving!

On Wednesday, November 27 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., we will be giving away FREE pumpkin pies in our office to patients who stop by, while supplies last! We figure you’ve probably already got a lot on your mind for the holiday, so a free dessert that you don’t have to bake or pay for yourself might be pretty sweet!

We’ll have both regular and sugar-free pies available—so if you have diabetes or are just trying to cut back on sweets, you’ll have a delicious option you can enjoy guilt-free!

(Of course, if you’re planning to donate to our veteran’s drive, here’s your perfect opportunity. You can drop off your items when you stop by for pie.)

One pie per family, please. We want to make sure as many families as possible can enjoy!

More Convenient Hours

Back to foot care for a moment.

As we said, we got into this profession because we want to make a difference in people’s lives. But we can’t make much of a difference if our patients aren’t able to schedule an appointment at a time that works for them!

We want it to be as easy as possible for you to get the help you deserve, so we’ve flexed our operating hours a bit to provide a few extra early morning, later afternoon, and even lunch break time slots for patients who have tricky schedules to juggle. Here are the new hours:

  • Mon: 7:15 – 9 a.m.; 11 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
  • Tue: 7:15 – 9 a.m.; 11 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
  • Wed: 11:30 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.
  • Thu: 7:15 – 11:30 a.m.; 1 – 5:30 p.m.
  • Fri: 8 – 9 a.m.; 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Need to see us before work? Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays start at 7:15 a.m. Need to see us after work? Thursday has slots as late as 5:30 p.m. Slip in on a long lunch break? Most days should now accommodate that nicely.

No matter your schedule, we hope it’ll be a lot easier for you to find an appointment time that works for you!

So those are some of the ways that we’re giving back to our community through the end of 2019! Once again, we hope to see you soon—whether you need expert foot care or you’re just stopping by to drop off some donated items or grab a fresh pie.

Thanks for helping make Bloomington such an awesome place to live, work, and serve. We couldn’t do it without you, and we’re so grateful.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lockwood and all of us here at Heartland Foot & Ankle Associates
