KeryFlex for Fungal Nails

Aug 15, 2019

Summer is slowly but surely dwindling away, the days are getting shorter, and you may be trying to cram in a few more beach or pool days before the colder weather starts to creep back around. After all, it will be a whole year before you get to put that swimsuit on again, and let your toes be free in your favorite open-toed shoes.

But when toenail fungus comes into play, it can easily put a damper on your end-of-summer plans. Who wants to expose their feet when their nails have become a discolored, thickened, crumbly mess?

Not you, we’re guessing!

In fact, if you have developed this unsightly condition, you will likely take every measure possible to avoid displaying your feet in public. And this means you may end up missing out on many opportunities to enjoy the rest of your summer. Even worse than “just” skipping out on trips to the beach, you can forget about wearing sandals or open-toed shoes, too.

Since we only get a couple of months of summer here in Illinois, we definitely don’t want you missing out! And the good news is you don’t have to – because we provide professional treatment for fungal nails right here at our Heartland Foot & Ankle Associates office.

Now, you should keep in mind that though there are certainly measures we can take to restore your nails back to health, it will take some time for clear, healthy nail tissue to grow back in after treatment has been completed. (Sometimes, it can take up to several months before you start seeing results.)

But no worries! We have a “trick” up our sleeve that will solve your problem in no time – KeryFlex.

KeryFlex? What’s That?

There are only so many days left of summer, and we know you don’t have time to wait for a new nail tissue to grow back. That’s where KeryFlex comes in. This simple procedure will provide a natural, healthy look to your infected nail while you wait for your fungal nail treatment to do its job.

KeryFlex is a cosmetic procedure where a polymer resin is applied directly to the damaged nail(s). We then carefully sculpt the resin to fit your toe(s) and make sure this artificial nail looks natural and covers any visible damage.

There are many benefits to this procedure, but perhaps one of the biggest advantages is that you can wear this customized artificial nail for up to two months. (The amount of time will, of course, depend on how well you are able to maintain them, as well as your specific needs.) And if you ever need the application to be removed, we can easily do so right here at our office.

But that’s not all – aside from being extremely durable and natural looking, KeryFlex nails also provide protection to the nail underneath as it grows back in. You can even apply nail polish to them, and the application process is quick, safe, and completely painless.

Wondering what the application process entails? Let’s dive a little deeper.

What Does a KeryFlex Procedure Look Like?

When you come to our office, we will perform a thorough evaluation of your toes and nails in order to determine which areas need to be treated and the severity of your condition. Once we establish which toenails are going to be treated, we will then begin debriding any damaged areas – this is a necessary step to ensure the resin is able to properly adhere to the nail.

Next, we will use a bonding agent that will hold the artificial nail in place and start brushing a couple layers of the resin onto the nail plate, letting it dry and partially harden for a couple of minutes. We will then repeat the process as necessary to build an artificial nail that is completely comfortable and natural looking.

After sufficiently applying these layers of resin, the nail is shaped and cured, and we are then able to buff the artificial nail to smooth out the surface.

Finally, a sealing solution is applied and the artificial nail is cured for a few minutes one last time.

And voila – you are now able to feel confident about how your toenails look!

Even better – this entire process takes only one appointment. Once the procedure is complete, you can walk right out our office door and resume your normal activities. It’s that simple!
